Our Commitment to Green Tourism

Canal Boat Escapes is located on the beautiful Leeds Liverpool Canal which enjoys stunning scenery and breathtaking views of Pendle and the Yorkshire Dales

Management and Marketing

Canal Boat Escapes are a member of the British Marine Federation and the Green Tourism Business Scheme.

 

We aim to make Canal Boat Escapes as environmentally friendly as possible.

Social and Communication

Canal Boat Escapes has a strictly no smoking policy.

 

We believe in buying locally wherever possible but if this is not possible we support fairtrade products

 

Information is given on local attractions along the route, places to eat out and activities for children

 

Local produce there is a farmers market at Skipton which is held in the canal basin on the first Sunday in each month

 

We have a policy of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle wherever possible. Guests are encouraged to hold their recycling and deposit in the dedicated skip at the marina

There is a range of public transport information in the property from buses, train timetables and park and rides.

 

We encourage guests to bring their bicycles along and work with a cycle hire company to make it easier for guests arriving by public transport.

 

We have invested in the latest Jabsco macerator toilets which have an eco flush option. This can reduce pump-outs by 30%.

 

We have removed the use of formaldahide based blue chemicals on all our pump-out toilets.

Natural and Cultural Heritage

Guests are encourage to enjoy the walks around the local area and leaflets are provided on board.

 

We advise guests of local events happening during their stay especially of a cultural nature. Please follow the Countryside Code

 

Approach and Policy

We abide by the Green Tourism Code of Conduct which means:

  • We comply with relevant environmental legislation

  • We commit to maintain efforts to continuously improve in relation to sustainable development

  • We do not make excessive or misleading green claims about our products and services

  • Karen is our Green Co-Ordinator.

We have minimised risk in the following areas by the counter-measures described:

  • Minimise pollution from oil by use of bilge matting

  • Pump out waste is disposed of via a licensed waste disposal company

  • Extra litter bins and a recycling bin have been provided.

  • chemicals are stored safely in a secure locked environment

  • We have a strict maintenance programme for our fleet which covers a full visual check before a guests holiday commences plus routine engine servicing

At Canal Boat Escapes we would like to ask you to help us by considering your environmental impact and where possible to :

  • Reduce, Reuse, Recycle wherever possible
  • Use the environmentally friendly cleaning products provided
  • We encourage sustainable tourism by encouraging bicycles and for guests arriving by public transport, the bus stop is just minutes away
  • Please support local food producers, restaurants, cafes, businesses and crafts.
